Presidents’ Day has its roots in the celebration of George Washington’s birthday on February 22nd. While initially focused on honoring the first U.S. President, the holiday evolved. In 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act shifted Washington’s Birthday to the third Monday in February to create more three-day weekends. This change also led to the popularization of “Presidents’ Day,” acknowledging both Washington and Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is February 12th.
